What the Recipe Calls For
For this easy and scrumptious recipe that yields approximately three cups of salsa, you will need:
- Two finely chopped jalapeños
- Two tablespoons of fresh lime juice
- Half a white onion, finely chopped
- A pound of plum tomatoes, seeded and chopped
- Half a cup of finely chopped fresh cilantro
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Tortilla chips for serving
Making the Salsa
In a large bowl, combine the chopped onion and jalapeños. Add the lime juice and season with half a teaspoon of salt and a quarter-teaspoon of pepper. Mix and let sit for ten minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes to the mix and gradually fold in the cilantro. The salsa is now ready for serving with a large bowl of chips. It can also be a great addition to any type of taco or be a delicious side to another dish!
If you prefer more spice, add another jalapeño or substitute the pepper type to one that’s higher on the Scoville scale. Alternatively, if you want to keep the flavors but dull the spiciness, leave the chopped onion and jalapeños in lime juice for a bit before eating!
Chopping all the ingredients by hand will give the dip a chunkier texture and a much more vibrant color than if it were blended in a food processor. If you would like a less fresh and more smoky flavor, grill the tomatoes, onion, and jalapeños before shopping and mixing them together!
