At the end of each year, food experts try to predict what the next one has in store when it comes to food. Although predicting the future is quite difficult, there were a few predictions that actually came true for 2023.
Briny Flavors and Low-ABV or No-ABV Drinks
Briny flavors might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they were a 2023 hit. Being the flavor of the year, they added extra tanginess to pretty much everything, including beverages. Food-flavored drinks may sound weird, but they hit the spot for sure.
Low and no-ABV drinks were also popular. You can still have fun while having them on their own, and they taste amazing. In addition, they are now essential in many restaurants and their menus. Let’s hope we’ll get to try a variety of new flavors next year.
Nostalgic Foods Made a Comeback
A lot of retro things made a comeback in 2023, and food was no exception. Some predictions were pepperoni cups, blooming onions, ‘90s sprinkle cake, and more. People got the nostalgia and were brought back to their childhood.
Unfortunately, some predictions for 2023 missed the mark. Chocolate charcuterie boards weren’t a thing. Another strange prediction was combining astrology with food. Astrology fans weren’t interested in knowing the perfect dish based on their sign.
Robot Servers Didn’t Happen
Another one of the many food predictions was robot servers that would bring your order and tell you the story behind your favorite drink. Although some places have started using robots to cook, technology hasn’t managed to take over the world of food just yet.
While some of the predictions for 2023 didn’t happen, it’s always fun to try to guess what trends people will be into in the future. Let’s wait and see what 2024 will have in store for the foodie world!
Most people would agree that there is something special about instant noodles. They’re cheap, easy to make, and very delicious. Digital creator David Yew, who is known on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube as Brother Noodle is a great fan of noodles and is helping the world connect with the dish by popularizing interesting recipes of it.
Great Recipes for Delicious Instant Noodles
According to Yew, instant noodles are among the first Asian dishes that became universally loved around the globe. He believes that is due to noodles being quick to make, packed with flavor, and super tasty. On his social media channels, Yew demonstrates how instant noodles come in many varieties and can be transformed into a nutritious dish rich in flavor. Here are a few recipes that Brother Noodle has shared online.
The Miso Corny Ramen
This recipe can be made with any instant noodles because it doesn’t rely on the seasoning that comes with the product. According to Yew, it’s easy to make, and the butter, corn, and miso complement each other very well. To prepare it, enthusiasts should use creamed corn, green onion, butter, and miso paste. The noodles should be prepared as usual but without the seasoning. Then, melted butter, fried miso paste, and creamed corn should be mixed together in a pan for a few minutes, and the noodles should be added with two tablespoons of water. The dish can be garnished with green onion.
Black and White Noodles
For this version of noodles, Yew recommends using black jajangmyeon noodles. According to him, this version is a great way to add protein to instant noodles, and it’s also easy to make. The contrast of black and white is achieved by adding egg whites to the black jajangmyeon noodles to create a playful dish. The ingredients include instant jajangmyeon noodles, two egg whites, some garlic powder, chili flakes, and green onion. The noodles should be prepared as usual with the seasoning, and egg whites should be prepared in a pot. Then, the egg whites should be seasoned with chili flakes, garlic powder, and sliced green onion. When the noodles are done, they should be drained and mixed with the sauces in a bowl. Then, the cooked egg whites should be placed on top of the noodles, mixed, and served.
Noodles for a Budget Pad Thai
This recipe allows anyone to capture the essence of pad thai, which is Thailand’s most famous noodle dish, without breaking the bank for expensive ingredients. It also takes less time to prepare. To achieve the effect, Yew suggests using Shin ramen with peanut butter to mimic the savory punch of pad thai. The ingredients include Shin ramen, peanut butter, lime wedge, hot sauce, green onion, and any leftover cooked meat like chicken. The noodles should be prepared as usual, and the leftover meat should be warmed up simultaneously. When ready, the noodles should be placed in a bowl with two tablespoons of water and 3/4 of the seasoning packet. The meat, peanut butter, and hot sauce should also be added, and everything should be mixed together. The dish can be finished with chopped green onions and served with some lime on the plate.
