Many things are trending among young people today, and it can be hard to keep track of everything. But what’s important to remember is that not every trend is fun and just youngsters trying to have a good time. You see on TikTok people dancing, being funny, cooking, and whatnot – just trying to pass the time. However, there is a trend called bed rotting, and it’s among the ones to worry a little more about than others.
What Exactly Is Bed Rotting?
What exactly does the term mean? Is it people not washing their sheets for a long time, or maybe never making up their bed when they get up in the morning? Or is it something a bit more simple? It’s simple. People lay in bed all day and ignore everything outside by being alone and curled up in a cocoon.
Could There Be a Deeper Reason?
Laying in bed all day every once in a while might not be such a terrible idea – it’s the perfect way to rest. But could there be a deeper reason if a person takes on bed rotting repeatedly, ignoring everything, and just doing the bare minimum to get by? Could that person be beyond stressed? Could life problems be too overwhelming, and are people looking to escape?
What’s Behind the Ordeal?
Dr. Jessi Gold, assistant professor of Psychiatry at Washington University, addressed some common concerns behind taking on the trend and urged people to ask themselves why they’re doing it. She tells people to look within and ask themselves whether they’re choosing to lay and sleep all day simply because they’re tired or if they’re trying to avoid a greater issue.
Instead of constantly participating in bed rotting and avoiding the world, listen to your inner voice. Decide whether you’re doing it to take a day off from everything or to escape something that might bring you more stress and worry than you can handle.
